Outdoor Walk & Talk Therapy
Let’s take therapy outside, in nature
Do you find it difficult to open up while sitting in a traditional therapy office?
Would you feel more comfortable processing your thoughts while moving your body? or sitting on a park bench in the sunshine?
Are you looking for a therapy approach that allows you to connect with nature while working through your challenges?
Maybe the idea of sitting across from a therapist in a traditional office setting feels too formal or even intimidating. You might find that movement helps you think more clearly, and you prefer having deep conversations while walking side by side rather than sitting face to face.
Or perhaps you’re someone who feels more relaxed and grounded when spending time outdoors, and the thought of combining therapy with fresh air and movement feels like the perfect fit for you.
Walk-and-talk therapy is a unique, effective alternative to traditional therapy that allows you to engage in meaningful conversations while walking outside in nature. It’s a great way to process emotions, reduce stress, and find clarity—all while benefiting from the calming effects of movement and fresh air.

Exposure to sunlight provides Vitamin D, which may help reduce depressive symptoms
Mindfulness practices during walks encourage present-moment awareness, easing anxiety and improving mood

How walk & talk therapy works
Sessions take place in a peaceful, outdoor setting at Swimming River Park in Red Bank, NJ, on Tuesdays during the spring, summer, and fall (weather permitting). Just like a traditional therapy session, our conversation will flow naturally—but with the added benefits of fresh air and gentle movement.
Whether you prefer a slow, reflective walk or a more active pace, the session will move at your speed. And if you ever want to pause, sit on a bench, or take a moment to reflect, that’s always an option!

What happens if the weather isn't great?
If the weather isn’t suitable—whether it’s too hot, raining, or freezing—we can either switch to an indoor session (if available) or move to a virtual session. I’ll check in with you beforehand to confirm whether we’re still comfortable meeting outside or need an alternative plan.
-
How is Walk and Talk therapy different from regular therapy?
The biggest difference is the setting and movement. Traditional therapy happens indoors, sitting face-to-face, while Walk and Talk therapy allows for a more dynamic and open environment. Many clients find that walking side by side makes it easier to open up, reduces anxiety, and helps them feel less pressured. The added physical movement can also improve mood and clarity.
-
Do I have to walk the whole time?
Not at all! Walk and Talk therapy is flexible. We can slow down, take breaks, or even sit on a bench or the grass if you prefer. The goal is to create a comfortable environment where you feel at ease while talking.
-
Is Walk and Talk therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is always a priority in therapy, but since Walk and Talk therapy takes place in public spaces, there is a possibility of encountering other people. We’ll be mindful of our surroundings and can adjust our conversation if needed. If we run into someone you know, you are not required to introduce me or explain anything. We can also discuss ways to navigate this situation before starting.
-
Can I alternate between Walk and Talk and traditional therapy?
Absolutely! Some clients prefer to mix Walk and Talk sessions with in-office or virtual sessions, depending on their mood, the weather, or what they need to process that day. Therapy should be adaptable to your needs.
